The real challenge is how you talk to yourself.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Why ADHD activates the inner critic so strongly <\/strong><\/p><ol><li><strong>Childhood conditioning:<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADHD children receive more corrections, critiques, and negative feedback. This creates an internal reflex: \u201cIf something goes wrong, it must be my fault.\u201d The inner critic becomes a form of self-protection.<\/p><ol start=\"2\"><li><strong>Rumination:<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADHD is not a deficit of attention but a difficulty regulating it. You can lose focus quickly but also get stuck on a painful thought. With emotional hypersensitivity, rumination intensifies shame.<\/p><ol start=\"3\"><li><strong>Internal saboteurs:<\/strong><\/li><\/ol><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saboteurs (the Judge, the Perfectionist, the Anxious, the Hypervigilant, the Pleaser\u2026) activate faster in ADHD brains. They turn small mistakes into identity threats. The brain stays in threat mode.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What self-compassion is NOT<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Self-pity<\/li><li>Excuses<\/li><li>Avoiding responsibility<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What self-compassion IS<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an emotional regulation skill. It lowers cortisol, calms the amygdala, and reactivates the prefrontal cortex.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cMy brain works differently. I\u2019m doing my best with a nervous system in overload.
